A lot of the appeal that kiddie films have are nostalgia driven.
You can see why animators' like this guy's work. Really weird and inventive. Look at that short guy's walk as he leaves the limo. The way characters shrink for 4 to 6 frames before they do a "take". The wandering eyes of the birds.
