Animateable

Here are some classically "animatable" characters to compare to Leah Tinari's "Pippa Lee" paintings from yesterday.

Above is a sketch in Tex Avery's hand to illustrate size comparison of characters.  You can see his basic construction -the classic cartoon method of intersecting spheres.

This is a good way to draw characters for animation, especially when they have to pass through many hands and be "on model".  One of my favorite thing about Avery's cartoons is that he doesn't emphasize "model" the way post-1960s animation has.  Still, his method of construction makes movement relatively simple compared a naturalistic, illustrative structure.  It also helps keep drawings on model, if that's important to the filmmaker.
